A 47-year-old woman in Osaka was involved in a shocking chain of eight traffic accidents within just 35 minutes. The incidents occurred between Minoh City and Osaka City, leaving pedestrians and motorcyclists injured.
The accidents took place on the Shin-Midosuji Street, one of Osaka’s main roads. Despite being a relatively wide and straight avenue, the driver managed to crash into multiple vehicles and even hit pedestrians before being stopped by the police.
A Series of Crashes in High Speed
The first accident happened at 7:00 AM, when the woman hit a 46-year-old man’s car and fled. Just six minutes later, she collided with another vehicle driven by a 49-year-old man, only to crash into a third car, driven by a 60-year-old man, two minutes after that.
Without stopping, the driver continued her reckless spree and at 7:13 AM, she hit a 49-year-old woman riding a scooter. Then, at 7:21 AM, she struck a 57-year-old pedestrian, and eight minutes later, she ran over an 82-year-old man.
In addition to these six collisions, the woman crashed into a wall and then hit a 33-year-old motorcyclist at around 7:35 AM. It was only after this last accident that the police managed to stop her, preventing further chaos.
Investigation and Strange Statements
Despite the severity of the situation, the reported injuries were minor. Police conducted tests to check if the driver was under the influence of alcohol, but no traces were found. When questioned, she made bizarre statements, claiming that “she was not driving dangerously” and even insisting that “she was not driving a car”.
The case quickly went viral on social media, with many comparing the situation to scenes from Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and Mario Kart.
While there is no official world record for the most traffic accidents caused by a single person in a short time, the numbers are shocking. In 2022, Japan recorded approximately 300,000 traffic accidents, averaging one accident every two minutes. This means that, for a brief period, this driver was nearly matching the accident rate of the entire country.
Although it is unlikely that the woman will receive a gold driver’s license (awarded to those with a clean record), authorities hope she gets the necessary support to prevent future incidents.
